SONAM SHERPA

Sonam began playing the guitar as a 9 year old and has not stopped since. He has dedicated his entire life in the pursuit of excelling in this instrument of his choice. Dubbed as one of the 'Top 10 Guitarist of India' by the Rolling Stones magazine, he has gone on to become one of India's most iconic rock axeman.

He is the Lead Guitarist of one of India's top rock band Parikrama, and a founder member of the band Mrigya and North East Express. Sonam has played over 3000 concerts in India and across the world, recorded with industry respected musicians and rubbed shoulders with world heavyweights like Iron Maiden, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre, Evanescence, Lamb of God etc. while playing at the legendary Download Festival at Donnington, UK.

Sonam has channeled his vast knowledge and experience of 21 years as the India’s leading Guitarist, to provide quality education in the field of Music for the new generation of music lovers through the Parikrama School of Music. Started in 2003, it is the first music school in Delhi to teach Western Contemporary Music with a structured syllabus, conducting examinations under world renowned Rockschool Trinity of London. The School has been consistently having the highest number of toppers in the Rockschool exam year after year.

He is one of a select few musicians in India who have been signed on for endorsements of music gear in India like Gibson Les Paul Guitars (read Interview with Gibson), Carl Martin Effect Pedals, Laney Amplifiers & Shure Audio Equipment.

Sonam has been featured on CNBC's Young Turks (watch), a show focusing on young entrepreneurs who have excelled in their field and made a difference. The BBC has also featured him and his band in a rockumentary while on their Download Festival Tour.

He is a workaholic and is always busy with a project if not a couple simultaneously. Apart from looking after his school and playing in his band, Sonam also makes music for feature films, documentaries, ad jingles and does independent studio sessions with other musicians. From hard rock to fusion, he is equally adept at playing varied forms and genres of music. Apart from the guitar, he is equally adept at playing the Blues Harp, Bass, Piano and Drums. He has earned his music degree with colours and is a qualified teacher.

Apart from the Band and the School, Sonam has taken his first steps in the Indian Film Industry (Bollywood) by composing the songs and music for the feature film “Manjunath”.
